The history of Rolex is inextricably linked to the visionary spirit of Hans Wilsdorf, its founder.
It was in 1905, at the age of 24, in London he founded a company specializing in the distribution of timepieces. At that time, pocket watches were much more popular than the wrist watch. Hans Wilsdorf saw the opportunity and presented a durable watch with small and very precise mechanisms by a Swiss watchmaking company in Bienne. He needed a sounding name, easy to remember and to pronounce in all languages. Among the hundreds of combinations of letters, it dawned on him the name ‘Rolex’. Thus the legend was born.
In this video a Veteran decided to take his 1960 Rolex to the Antiques Roadshow. He was talking with Appraiser and told him the story about how he got it. He found out something amazing that he did not expect.
